Is it slow? Is it complete? Take a mental picture of it. Let&#8217;s inventory where your mind and body are at today before we dive into this practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Are the Kleshas?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Derived from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, a <em>klesha<\/em> is anything in our mind that distorts reality. Instead of seeing things as they are, kleshas generate an \u00abemotional reality\u00bb that traps us in repetitive, painful patterns. This is especially true in our relationships \u2014 how often do we fight to be right instead of seeking to agree?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When circumstances change or we face hard situations, our perception gets clouded. By understanding these five mental obstacles, we can start seeing reality with clarity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The 5 Kleshas (Mental Obstacles)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Avidya (Ignorance \/ Lack of Awareness):<\/strong> the root of all other kleshas. This isn&#8217;t a lack of book-smarts; it&#8217;s a failure to see reality clearly and forgetting our true, essential nature.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Asmita (Ego \/ False Self):<\/strong> over-identifying with your mind, body, social roles, or possessions. When you get trapped in the ego, you separate yourself from your true essence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Raga (Attachment \/ Desire):<\/strong> clinging to pleasant people, things, or situations. This attachment keeps us trapped in a brutal cycle of expectations and disappointment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dvesha (Aversion \/ Rejection):<\/strong> the fear and rejection of pain, discomfort, or unpleasant experiences.
